How to be a patient: Sierra Family Health Center accepts new patients. It is appreciated if you call in advance for an appointment. The Medical Center welcomes most private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, Women’s Health Connection and Nevada Check-Up. A sliding fee schedule for low-income patients who do not have insurance is available. Identification and income information is needed to enroll in the sliding fee program.
Appointments are strongly recommended; some sites do see walk-ins for emergency needs. Call the medical center to check on walk-in availability.
Pharmacy: Sierra Nevada Health Center houses an in-house pharmacy for your prescription needs. Medications are available at discounted prices for all NVHC patients. Most insurances and the sliding fee scale are accepted.
Prescription Refills: Ask your pharmacist to fax your request for prescription refills to the doctor; this will speed up your refill process.
Additional Information: Sierra Family Health Center opened its doors in the capital of Nevada in 1995, and moved to it’s new location in August, 2012.
Amani Altamimi, MD, received her medical degree from King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She completed Residency programs at East Orange General Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey and Central Michigan University in Saginaw, Michigan. She is also active in several professional organizations including the AmeriClerkships Medical Society, American College of Physicians, American Medical Women Association and American Geriatric Society.
Mohammad “Ali” Shahin, MD, is the regional clinical director of Sierra Nevada Health Center in Carson City. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. Dr. Shahin received his medical degree from Heinrich Heine University in Duesseldorf, Germany. He completed his Family Medicine residency at Doctor’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, where he was Chief Resident during his final year. He did a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Nevada in Reno.
Cesar Udani, MD, is a board certified Family Practitioner. Dr. Udani received his medical degree from Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, Manila, Philippines. He completed his Family Practice residency at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, Michigan.
Karie Randall, FNP, loves preventive medicine, primarily working to prevent cardiovascular disease in childhood and adulthood. In her free time, she loves to run and hike with her husband Warren and puppy Ebby. She enjoys being in the mountains and visiting her 12 nieces and nephews located in California, Missouri and Michigan.
Leslie Thompson, MS, PA-C, has been with Nevada Health Centers for 15 years. Her approach to health care makes certain that the patient is the driving force on the road to optimal health. Leslie received her Master’s of Science in Nutrition from the University of Washington. She continued her education at the University of Utah in Physician Assistant studies. She also serves as the Clinical Director of EHR Applications for NVHC helping to assure that the electronic software systems benefit Nevada Health Center’s patients, providers and staff.
Tatiana Warner, PA-C, is a certified physician assistant. She has practiced medicine as PA for over 10 years. Tatiana received her Masters at the University of California, Davis in Physician Assistant studies. She enjoys theater, reading, walks, gardening, and swimming.

Jim Freeland, LCSW, has 30 years of experience with inpatient, community-based and outpatient mental health. He is originally from Florida, but has also lived in California, Hawaii and Nevada. He is experienced in assessment, crisis intervention, individual therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, supervision, and program development. He is a founding member of the Kern Valley Professional Forum and a former member of the Kern Valley Search and Rescue Team. While in Kern County, he also served on the School Violence Prevention Task Force and the Crisis Mental Health Task Force.
His work has also included close collaboration with multiple disciplines, building and fostering strong working relationships with community partners, advocacy, and prevention. His strengths include: an eagerness to learn, flexibility, experience, a “can do” attitude and a belief that our clients are much more than what they are diagnosed with.
In his free time, he enjoys hiking, mountain climbing, backpacking, photography, travel, kayaking and snorkeling.
Tami Baumann, APRN, WHNP, CNM, MS, is adjunct Faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno Orvis School of Nursing where she teaches Women’s Health at the graduate level and Maternity to undergraduates. She is a clinical preceptor for midwives and family nurse practitioner students for Orvis School of Nursing and Frontier.
In addition to earning an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, she completed the Harbor UCLA Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certificate program, earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Arts from the University of St. Francis, earned a Master of Science in Midwifery at Philadelphia University and will receive her Post-Masters in Nursing Education from the Orvis School of Nursing Spring 2016.
