The Mammovan Hits The Road For Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

October 02, 2026 Uncategorized

Between work, family, and everyday responsibilities, it can be easy to put your own healthcare on hold. This October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder to check in on your breast health and take the next step toward getting screened.

Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan is traveling throughout the state this month, bringing mammography services closer to the communities we serve.

Why screening matters

Breast cancer does not always cause noticeable symptoms. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast that can detect cancer before a lump can be felt or other symptoms appear. Finding breast cancer early can make it easier to treat, and regular mammograms can reduce the risk of dying from breast cancer. Screening cannot prevent breast cancer, but it can help identify it sooner.

When should you get screened?

The American Cancer Society recommends mammograms annually for women ages 40 and older. Your healthcare provider can help you decide when to begin screening and how often to schedule it based on your individual risk and health history. People at higher risk may need a different screening plan. Discuss the benefits and limitations of screening with your provider.

If you notice a new lump, nipple discharge, changes in breast shape or skin, or other unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider promptly. These changes do not always mean cancer, but they should be evaluated. Do not wait for your next routine screening appointment to bring up a concern.

Bringing breast cancer screening closer to you

For many Nevadans, getting screened can involve a long drive or time away from work and family. Our Mammovan helps make care more accessible by bringing a mobile mammography unit to communities across Nevada.

Operating since 2000, the Mammovan provides screening mammograms for women ages 40 and older, serving those with insurance and those without insurance. If you have questions about eligibility, coverage, or cost, our team can help you understand your options before your appointment.

Throughout October 2026, the Mammovan’s scheduled screening stops include:

Community October dates
Reno October 1, 8, and 9
Carson City October 6
Gardnerville October 7
Las Vegas    October 13, 17, 21, and 23
Henderson October 15 and 16
North Las Vegas October 20, 22, and 24
Winnemucca October 27
Elko October 28
West Wendover October 29 and 30

Dates and locations are subject to change. Please confirm your preferred location and appointment availability when scheduling. The Mammovan will also attend the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 11, but screenings will not be available at that event.
