August is National Breastfeeding Month, a time to recognize the importance of breastfeeding for the health of both infants and mothers. Breastfeeding provides babies with vital nutrients and antibodies, strengthens their immune systems, and fosters a strong bond between mother and child. For mothers, it can also reduce health risks and promote overall well-being.
At Nevada Health Centers (NVHC), the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program plays a key role in supporting families who choose to breastfeed. WIC centers across Nevada offer resources, education, and encouragement to help moms on their breastfeeding journey. Certified lactation consultants and peer counselors provide one-on-one guidance, answer questions, and offer practical tips to overcome common challenges.
In addition to personalized support, NVHC’s WIC program supplies breastfeeding moms with access to breast pumps, nutrition counseling, and community connections that make the process less overwhelming. These services empower mothers to feel confident in their ability to nourish their babies, while also creating healthier futures for Nevada families.
As we celebrate Breastfeeding Month, Nevada Health Centers is proud to stand alongside mothers, offering the tools and support they need to give their children the very best start in life.
