NVHC Brings Clinical Trials to Local Community Through Partnership with Javara

December 01, 2025 Uncategorized

NVHC and Javara now actively enrolling patients to participate in a new norovirus vaccine study.

Nevada Health Centers (NVHC), Nevada’s largest Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) program, joined forces with Javara, a leading integrated research organization (IRO), in 2023 to bring clinical research to Nevadans, beginning in the greater Carson City area. To date, NVHC has received a total of fourteen trial opportunities, and six are currently activated and offered at Sierra Nevada Health Center in Carson City. These include studies for the norovirus vaccine and oral GLP-1 for diabetics as well as malnutrition, heart failure prevention, hypothyroidism, and covid. Plans are in place to expand the clinical research program to other NVHC facilities in the state.

NVHC and Javara are actively seeking participants to join the norovirus vaccine clinical trial to develop an effective vaccine to prevent this disease. Norovirus is a highly contagious pathogen that can cause a variety of unpleasant symptoms including acute vomiting and diarrhea, as well as more serious complications among certain age groups or those with weakened immune systems. According to the CDC, there are 2,500 norovirus outbreaks in the U.S. each year, and the virus is responsible for 58% of foodborne illnesses (https://www.cdc.gov/norovirus/data-research/index.html).

Clinical trials are an essential step in developing new medications and therapies, and the norovirus vaccine trial, part of a national study, aims to reduce the impact of the disease that sickens thousands of people every year, leading to lost work productivity, school absences, hospitalizations, and more.

Nevada Health Centers’ chief integration officer, Sangeeta Wagner, DO, along with Jason Elenberger, site operations manager for Javara, are the clinical and administrative leads for the NVHC/Javara norovirus vaccine study. Those who are interested in the norovirus vaccine study will go through a pre-screening process to determine if they are eligible. There is no cost to participate, and patients are compensated for their time and travel.

Participating in clinical trials offers a variety of benefits for patients while supporting medical advances and enabling researchers to find new ways to prevent, detect, and treat disease. Participants may also get access to new treatments before they are widely available and receive expert care from the clinical trial providers.

If you are interested in participating or would like to learn more, please contact Jason Elenberger at [email protected] or our research team phone line at 775.200.9775. Media interviews are also available upon request.
